Bloksie Devblog #1 - ඞ

Hello to all 2 of my followers,


I've decided I'm going to be making Dev Diaries / Devblogs about this game as I work on it. Bloksie was a way to prove to myself that I can, in fact, finish projects, with not finishing anything being something of a curse that has been following me for as long as I remember. And what better way to rectify it than to make a crudely drawn shitpost videogame?


Now, recently I have made the decision to release the demo - which might've been too soon, considering, as it stands, a lot of people seem to bounce off of the game entirely, with the introduction not keeping people invested. In order to rectify this issue, I have spent the last day or so making a more playable build.


Version 0.2


The most noticeable change is the music. I opened up LMMS in a cold sweat and pumped out 4 mediocre music tracks to battle the awkward silence as a placeholder. This should probably make things less jarring around the intro (which is still very clunky, but it's not a priority for me atm.)


It took some playtesters far too long to figure out how to start a Wave, so after 30 seconds of idling the game gets a little impatent with you now.

With how difficult the game turned out to be to learn, I increased the amount of starting bags the player gets in each level, as well as increasing the amount of Blok you get from the Tutorial Perk.


The old Level 8 became the new Level C, and in its place is a new level which hopefully helps players see that there is, in fact, more to the game than putting two and two together.

I've also rearranged the levels so that you only need to complete two (bar the tutorial) to gain access to 1-8 and 1-B. Hopefully all of these changes make it a little easier to get into the game proper.


New Items


I added several new items which should come in handy when trying to turn your run around, all of which are unlocked from the get-go.

Lastly, a new perk has made its way into the shop - letting you gamble for any legendary perk that you might fancy. Also unlocked from the get-go (and on any currently active save files).

ok. But what's next?


Since the V-Slice is out in a complete (albeit unpolished) manner, I thought it best to begin working on the rest of the game. World 2 is shaping up to be a "fun" (subjective) experience where your map space is limited while you play the worlds most distressing round of minesweeper.

Bloksie is the most fun I've had working on anything, really, and is also coincidentally the most fun thing I've ever made. I'll keep pushing frequent updates to the newgrounds version until the demo is ship shape shoe shine and I double my follower count (2 --> 4)
